All NPCs are gone, even the Dwarves that I killed their corpses aren't around anymore. But as Gaming Phreak says, if you want max XP, go around and talk to everyone first and do all of their quests. THEN kill them. By the time we made it back around to the ladder almost everyone was dead (spectator included) and i just had to finish off the drow and some stragglers. I missed one named non-random NPC because I had my character kill the required NPC too early. second, thanks for anyone willing to share thoughts I appreciate in advance your time. First look around, find the forge, the hiding gnome, some additional encounters like the merregons, then ally with duergar, rescue Nere, kill Nere, convince duergar to let the gnomes go, chop chop back to Myconids. the second time is when the story progresses. But on my second playthrough I got to Grymforge, talked to a few people, took a long rest to get ready for the fightthen I came back and everyone was gone and Nere is just dead on the floor where the comes out of the doorway that was blocked by rocks. . If you want to kill the duergar before freeing nere but not have him die from the poison room, you can do just that, don't long rest, and then free him. and it seems like no matter what I do, the deep gnomes turn on me. Once you kill Nere, leave him to die and ignore, or talk to him and "side" with him, everyone in Grymforge leaves and moves on. Killing the dwarves on the shore of the underdark has no impact on the dwarves in the grymforge or the quests there. nere literally telepathically warned you the first time you left the area for any reason.
